Supro Thunderbolt 6420S (4)
Legendary amp reputed to have been Jimmy Pages main amp for the Led Zeppelin I album and most of Led Zeppelin II. One of these was also in Jim Hendrix's arsenal before he moved to England and started The Experience. A better endorsement for a guitar amp is not possible. This is a 1967 model with a solid state rectifier. It has a simple tube circuit that sounds incredible. -
Fender Champion DSP 30 (4)
$125 Great little solid state utilitarian amp with surprisingly good tone and digital effects. Its two channels and has built in distortion, chorus, tremolo, vibrato, flanger, delay and reverb. These have been discontinued by Fender because they were too good for the money and hurt sales of pricier amps. Comes with channel foot switch. -
Fender Musicmaster Bass Amp (4)
Like the Fender Bassman the Musicmaster Bass Amp turned out to be much more suitable for guitar than bass. These amps have become highly sought after by guitarist in the know because their superior tone, portability and surprising volume capabilities. All they need is a good speaker to bring them to life. This one sports a smooth sounding ceramic magnet 8 ohm 12" modern replacement speaker that really sounds good and packs a punch. What sets these amps apart is that instead of a tube they use a transformer for the phase inverter circuit. Its a much more expensive way to build an amp so its not used very often in guitar amps. Sure does improve the tone over tube phase inverter circuits. -
ZT Luchbox 2 Amplifier (7)
An absolutely incredible amplifier. Its loud, its compact, its got cool and useful features but most importantly, it is a tone delivery appliance. What this means to you is that real money you spent on your guitars and favorite pedals pays off big-time when you plug into this little guy. At only $259 list price, the music stores are treating this as an entry level beginner amp or worse as some sort of novelty toy amp. Big mistake... as the tone that comes out of this solid state amp. while not likely to be mistaken for a Dumble Overdrive Special, will certainly compete with lower end Fender tube amps like the Blues Junior or even the Deville amps. Whats more, these guys are tons louder. That's right, its no bigger than the combined volume of a sandwich and a thermos yet it will shake walls and break glass. All the while faithfully delivering impeccable tone such as a tone delivery appliance should. You owe it to yourself to check these baby's out. One caveat to watch out for is to make sure you get one with a serial number larger than 2500 as some important changes were made to the power delivery and gain staging circuitry as well improvement to the reverb now relabeled ambiance. It seems that in some of those very early units, the power delivery curve was such that under constant, loud playing the little amp would get hot. So hot that it would start thermal limiting which while protecting the amp from complete failure, would cause an audible intermittent stuttering which was annoying. The problem could be solved by backing off the volume a little but it kept me from acquiring a second unit. That is until I learned that the owner of ZT Amps, Ken Kantor, was aware of the issue and engineered a solution. So now I've acquired a second Lunchbox 2 amp and am enjoying this incredible device in stereo, often chosen over a healthy array of modern and vintage tube amps at my disposal. -
